Telemarketers

Apparently I feel the need to lie and seek amusement from telemarketers. From the time I tell them I'm not interested twice, I consider them fair game.

Me: "I'm sorry, I am not interested, I really don't have any interest in this product regardless of the savings"
Her: "Well perhaps your husband might be interested in such wonderful magazines"
Me: "My partner is a woman"
Her: "Oh. *pause* Well you have a good night then"

She knew she was screwed at that point. Too bad I was lying in this particular instance.

On a more moral ground, it is heterosexist to presume that I am married to a man. Maybe she'll learn to use more gender neutral terminology. Probably not.

Probably new then. We experienced telephone-call-and-annoy-you-people know that any person in the house is a potential survey respondent/sale/whatever, and don't bat an eye over anything like that. I think I surveyed some guy who was in the middle of masturbating once. But I got the survey done, so I didn't really care what was going on on the other end of the line.

You're hardcore!!

I spot the ones I can fuck with. Turnover is so high in call centres that a lot of them are new. It's really bad when you ask a rep a question and you get dead silence on the phone, but I worked client service for so long I know what buttons to push. It's not fair really, but then again they shouldn't try to sell me the same thing by phone every year.

I do take the time to do surveys though. Those don't cost me money and lock me into a 36 month contract.

Some surveys will even pay you - pay close attention! Some will ask at the end if you'd be interested in being considered for research panels or whatever, and if you go to those, they could pay you like 50 bucks for talking about stuff for two hours. Other surveys also offer you free stuff.

I was on a panel for determining wording for government census reports with regard to the glbt community
that was fun
the researchers got a little uneasy when the group brought up trans issues, since they had no representation there that night

I got the impression the governemnt were actually full on neglectful of trans issues. We recommended alternative boxes to tick for sex, and they looked at us funny.
At least the community looks to be more on board with trans rights, even if the world at large isn't

that is true.
