Today I was denied to give blood because I have Lupus. I also had an irregular heartbeat... I'm going to look into that because it's not usual. In better news, my iron levels were awesome.
I for one an a bit glad they are doing a better job at screening blood....many many many people have contracted some sort of disease from receiving blood! Who says Lupus can not be carried over to the person receiving it?
I have a huge fear of receiving blood from someone else.... People who have intercourse with someone with an unknown sexual background in the past year may have something undetected....which is a high percentage of people I would think. I worry about the donor having tattoo's, paper cuts, hair removal, the lifestyle, diet, medications they are on, age, workplace exposure to chemicals...all in my mind effect ones blood.
When I had Alex I gave my own blood to be used on myself if needed and I think that is a way better way of doing things than getting blood from any tom/dick or harry off the street. I would love to give blood more often if I knew it would be shelved for "my" use for a period of time..then used on someone else if they need it after that time. I think more people would be donating if this were the case.
