I'm incredibly upset right now.
My landlord won't remove the snow from the driveway. This is the second winter it's been a problem. Last year my mailman said that we had to do something about it or he'd stop delivering the mail because it wasn't safe. My landlord is legally required to remove the snow, and yet they don't. I've called and received ticket numbers for service requests to have them remove the snow from my driveway and nothing. Right now, my car is stuck at the end of the driveway in a pile of snow. Can't go forward, can't go back. Stuck. I have to be up in a little over 4 hours to take James to daycare, and I have no idea what to do. It's not like I can take a bus. Do I call a towtruck even though I shouldn't have to pay for this?
Most of my neighbours shovel out their own driveways, but we have unique challenges pertaining to this - namely James, and the fact that the end of my driveway is shared with 2 other houses, one of which doesn't have a car, and ergo doesn't shovel their driveway at all. I think what bothers me the most is the fact that it is someone else's responsibility. I pay them to do this already, and at this rate, I'm going to have to pay someone else to clear the driveway.
I'm really considering paying the $45 to file the Rent reduction application. Snow removal and parking were terms under my lease, and I'm receiving neither service at this point. How much do folks think that is worth every month? I essentially have 2 parking spaces counting the garage and the driveway.

I only suggest this because it's their obligation, and legally they are at fault. I'm not necessarily advocating litigation.

I know it's much different then what we went through this year, but since we won, our landlord was suppose to compensate the money for filing (although she never did for she can't read and we never want to talk to her again).

Just when it's really bad and you need to free the car/enough for a parking spot?
I had to shovel so much bloody snow last year, sometimes for 3 straight hours (with Karl or Dug) because of the double driveway/bi-law of the sidewalk.

However, one of us has to watch James, Kerry usually (or will once the stupid transit strike is over) get home before me, and in the morning shoveling means that she will be much later for work, unless I wake up at 5am instead of 5:30 and start shoveling.
The big rant here came from us coming home from Toronto last night, not realizing how bad the driveway was, and getting stuck completely. Luckily things melted a bit this morning, and Kerry was able to get out.

I also have to remember you guys get more snow then us.
And glad all went well this morning with getting out. It's warm here too, all the snow has melted...

Also, it's melting now, but there's a high of -4 tomorrow, and there's no way even most of it will have melted by then.

Completely unrelated note, I got my Visa interview on 9 Feb, 2009, It's in Montreal but since it's a monday I'll probably come up to Ottawa on Friday so I've got the time to make sure I'm in Montreal. I still have to poke Feli to see whether I would be able to stay with him or whether I'm going to get a hotel, but I've got the date now :D
