So I've gone back to work this week. And so far, most has gone well. I lucked out and started the same week as noob orientation, I got a crash course, which is great since there have been many changes.
However...
My pay advisor is a useless twat. You heard me. Useless. I can't tell if she's overworked or doesn't give a shit. Everyday, it's something new. Nuisances mostly. Send me this document that I said you didn't need to send. Sending me paperwork with the wrong address on it, even though I've corrected her 3 times already. And then today, she informs me that my December 8-10 pay was used to recoup costs associated with an overpayment in December.
Oh yeah. That.
Let me tell you about "that'.
I told her on December 5, 2007 that I was going on leave now. Faxed her my manager's form confirming the veracity of my claim and went on my merry way to begin my two-week waiting period for EI. Then, two weeks later, I got paid for December 7-21. What? Wait a minute here. I contacted her, and got a crappy answer about not updating the system. My manager then administratively sunk every sick day, vacation day, and personal day I had to cover this 2-week period. And then I began my two-week waiting period over again. And two weeks later, I got paid again. This time I didn't have any leave days left, and I couldn't get a hold of her. And two weeks later, I got paid again. I was now overpaid in the amount of two full paycheques and screwed out of 4 weeks of EI coverage.
Flash-forward to today. I e-mail her back saying I don't care about 2 day's pay, great, apply it to the debt, but I can't put the full value of my next 2 paycheques into repaying this debt. I'm willing to repay at 50% since I'm used to living off of that, but I need something. Her response. "You don't have a pay on December 24 or January 7, the system has already allocated the money to repayment."
Something tells me I'm going to have to get my union involved soon.
I hate government pay advisors. I swear on all that I love dearly, that it's where they shuffle the dumbest of the dumb and the mentally infirm, not to mention the inconsiderate.
But...
Nigel popped by and happened to mention that we've finally all been reclassified. I had no idea (see above twit). But it means that I get a minimum $4000 raise, paid retroactively, and my pay grade caps out $10,000 above my old classification. So even if I never get promoted, I will make more money. I wanted to hug him.
