My vet gave me special food for Pebbles on the off-chance that it's a food allergy causing her chronic infections.

So I started blending her old kibble and new kibble today, and I have a problem.

She won't eat her old kibble.

Dog picky eaters are a lot like people picky eaters - it is a practice very difficult to indulge when you've no choice except to eat what you would normally rather not otherwise go hungry.

In short, if you make the kibble she won't eat the only kibble available to her, she will eat it.

It's kinda mean, but you haven't much choice really if you want her to eat what you want her to eat.

She needs to transition to the new kibble, and that is all she will eat.

Well, if you want her to eat the new kibble, then you don't have a problem. But if you want her to eat her old kibble still, then just give her the amount she normally eats and ignore the pickyness. A healthy animal or human will never let themselves starve to death when there is food available. She might lose a bit of weight but she will likely realize that she can either go hungry or eat what she had been eating in the past. I mean if it was her former food, it couldn't have been THAT bad if she ate it before.

True.

It's kind of funny though. We used to be able to free feed her, we thought it was just an aspect of her personality. Turns out it's because she never really liked her food :)

*shrugs*

We have been pretty much since we got her, and she's slightly underweight (although apparently not as skinny as with her previous owner).

Maybe the old food is causing her problems and she doesn't want to eat it. If she is fine on the new food it's ok to stop feeding her the old stuff. It's not the best but it seems silly to force to eat something that could be bad

I'm mostly worried about upsetting her stomach with a sudden diet change, but I may not have much of a say in this matter.

I also have to wonder, because she always shows a preference for the new food.

You could have asked me Kerry, she's been on Science Diet before with no issues (with infections or anything else) and I've got tons of it you could have tried her out on.
