So it's been a long week. There's been some good and bad in it.
The good is very good. I went to the Lookout with
The new job is also very very good. I like the people, and the concept of making $14,000 more than I did at my last job makes me giddy. I used to live on less than $14,000 while paying my own tuition. I will buy a car soon.
I also picked up some new toys and games and clothes and then realized I wasn't getting paid when I thought I was getting paid. I have credit, I will survive.
and
The bad is a lot of people in Ottawa have revelaed themselves to be very entwined in an overgrown game of "Don't say what you think". I've now realized that people from Toronto have this reputation of being assholes for a reason: they don't play this game. I cannot belive that so many people in this city have not learned to realized that in our PostModern society we are all entitlled to an opinion. There are good opinions and bad opinions and opinions that don't make any sense. However as members of this self-same society, we also have to realize that if someone calls me a crackwhore, I have to realize that it's not true, and respect that someone thinks that. It only hurts my feelings if I let it. And actually that particular instance is a funny, funny story. I like voicing an opinion, it keeps people honest with themselves and with others, and the concept of "it might hurt someone's feelings" is understandable, but at some point we take the guardrails off of staircases for kids too. I never actively seek out people to harm, but if I become persona non grata because my SO makes a factual post that hurts someone's feelings... well... sucks to your assmar... all of you. I feel very censored in a 1984 kind of way. Ugh creepy. So from now on, I will be saying exactly what I think. I am still capable of using tact. Also take this to mean that if you do not want to hear exactly what I think, take me off your friend's list now. I won't be hurt, disappointed maybe, but I will not post to anyone's journal that is not on my friend's list.
And as for others, if I am going to take the time to make an articulated argument, I expect the same. "YOU FUCKING SUCK BECAUSE I SAID SO" ain't cool. "You suck because you slept with my boyfriend and/or girlfriend" has slightly more validity as an argument.
I go to make chocolates now.
Cheers!
