It was my last day at work, so I guess there is some risk mitigation, but the office gossip definitely got her due today and in a way she won't forget.
Office gossips suck ... but personally I hate to make enemies with anybody. I rather cultivate the "recluse-quiet-type-that-likes-weird-stuff-and-data".
If all else fails, nothing sends public servants running like starting to talk about econometrics.
I also only talk about innocuous stuff at work: my rats, my cat and my passsion for coffee. The rest is for me and the people worthy of my confidences.
Well, I was sticking the the light stuff, the occassional biology study would come out, and still she felt compelled to pick on the unassuming, quiet, nice girl. I mean, I cultivate the quiet persona at work. I talk about my dog, and a little bit about the upcoming wedding... it's expected.
Nope, bring up one scientific study about morning sickness in sheep and she starts telling everyone I will never get anywhere in the government and I couldn't handle her job (which is currently being restaffed). The hell? Game on.
Well, in her defense, she sounds like she's been controlled by men. Her dad says she has to get a full-time government job before he'll pay for the wedding, so she's made it clear before that she's jealous that I'm getting married before her. If it really means that much to her, then she sould take charge of the situation and make her own damn wedding plans.
It basically comes down to the fact that I have a higher education, more job prospects and I'm getting married. I nothing else, she needs to learn to develop more productive outlets for her frustration. Mostly because managers also like to see you spend time at your desk once in a while.

I'm sort of annoyed that she probably has the same first name as me ...
