I already knew this intuitively, although my mom still finds it freakish that I can smell her making Kool-aid from the opposite end of the house on a different floor.

I mean the fact that womens periods start to align themselves with women they are in constant contact with also says something. I really think we're supposed to be more in tune with our olfactory senses, but we sure do a lot to bugger it up.
There's also certain scents on people that drive me absolutely nuts. I'm just glad I know it's my lizard brain talking.
What if the reason we aren't overly successful at conceiving children in North America has something to do with the way we mask our scents? Febreeze and Bounce making it impossible to trigger bodily responses necessary to breed and bear children. There are studies that show a few things, like most "infertile" couples are that way because of low sperm count. Other studies also show that in couples where the man suspects the woman could be unfaithful, the sperm count increases dramatically. What if part of that function is actually smelling the other man on her (even subconsciously).
Being in an open relationship, I know that my partner gets really interested in certain activities when I get home from being with someone else (applies to time where he knows and doesn't know what I've been up to).
Just junk to think about.
