I'm not sure how I feel about my neighbourhood...

Yesterday

Last Wednesday

and let's not forget the shooting across the street a couple months ago involving a TEC 9

You live in a bad nieghborhood. It has never been a good neighborhood since I moved into the area. There have always been worse but Walkley and Heron was never really good.

On the other hand Heron and Jefferson,on the other side of the Mall, is a better neighbourhood.

Yeah, it's not the best, but keeping aware of your surroundings when you're out after dark (well, common sense anywhere really) is the best bet. Another reason I carry a cellphone - any situation that makes me uncomfortable, I pull it out and call someone and chat with them until I get into my house.

The one yesterday kinda freaked me out, being as it happened like 10 minutes after I got off the bus getting home from work.

When I was a young kid (5 to 8 years old) I lived around there in the Oaks Appartments. Back then there was a park across the street where kids could go, but now there's none...

That neighborhood was always rough. Heatherington was one of 'the rough places' in Ottawa, the others being Ledbury, Russell Projects and Rue Beausoleil around the Patro in Lowertown....but Heatherington has always been the worst IMO. It was so bad my Mom wouldn't lemme trick or treat on Halloween until I was 9 and we had moved outta there...and that was in the late 70's...

I counsel people not to live within half a klick of that place if they can.

As for using a Tec-9, well, Intratec made that weapon to be a mean looking pistol...and everyone wants one because the Gangsta rappers make it sound glamorous because you can file down the sear on the weapon and make it full auto...

What Tupac never mentioned was that in doing so you risk the weapon hopelessly jamming and the ammo cooking off in your hand....personally, I'd give ALL these adherents of the new 'Thug Life' a Tec-9 and a metal rasp....and some hollow point ammunition too.....

Josh and I grew up on either side of the Scarborough border in Toronto. We'll deal, but I want cheaper rent for fuck's sake.

Holy Crap! That totally destroys my theory that Canadians are non-violent types.

Well...

As much as Canadians would have you believe we're better, we're just different. For example, our bigotry is more covert than overt.

We're being exposed to the same gang glamour messages, and easy street aspirations, and so on 2 of the 3 recent crimes, I blame media... and subsequent bad parenting. These crimes are all being committed by people in their late teens and early 20s.

However over where I work, there's a pervert stalking young girls. We're grow those naturally up here.
