My mom is trying to get rid of me!
She just sent me job openings in PEI. She said I'd like it there.
She also said after 4 years of Ottawa winters, I wouldn't mind the weather.

Don't go.
It is beautiful and the people are friendly but...
You are from away. Unless you have a perament full time job lined up you will be passed over for jobs if there is a qualified Islander who can do it. There are lots of Islanders to fill most jobs. WHO you know and who your family is matters.
The weather is not as hot in the summer and not as cold in the winter but there is more humidity and snow. (The ocean/beaches are wonderful.)
There is no public transit. You WILL require a car or you will have to live right downtown.
The myth that the cost of living is lower only applies to housing. Everything else is on par and the minimum wage was lower the last time I checked.

I hear the salt from the ocean eats the cars, unless you own a plastic Saturn.

If you both have jobs going into it that might be workable. If you can cope with the "Island Way of Life" you should be fine.
Word of caution... if there is any poly culture there it is highly closeted. I think PEI had it's first gay pride parade only very recently. It was the second to last province to provide protection for sexual orientation... and that was less than a decade ago.

I see you sell PEI the same way I sell the University of Ottawa. I do not make the ambassadors jobs any easier when they explain things like "Work study positions pay $10-$12 an hour" and I break out laughing as I walk past the group.

It is an excellent place to live if you fit in there and those who do fit in there consider it the earthy equivalent to the garden of eden.
I don't.
Your sexual orientation and lifestyle may be an issue there. Not that it is a province of biggots... it isn't... but alternate life styles are closeted there and everyone gossips. Social status matters. I'm not exactly sure how it is treated. Most people never talk about it.
As a note... two gay men from there that I am friends with... both left... one won't go back even to see his family. The other will drink to be able to cope with going home to the Island.

Although I have never even been to PEI, I have a strong feeling that I wouldn't enjoy living there. Visiting maybe but living, no.
Vancouver's calling my name instead. Even with my problems in social situations, I am still a city woman.

However if you are used to a big city, and enjoy it, and any kind of alternate lifestyle, then PEI is definately not the place to go live long term.
