Before Christmas, I made an appointment for Pebbles to get spayed. For those of you who aren't familiar with how Pebbles came into our lives, we got her when she was 7, and it has been something I've been meaning to do for quite some time, but finances and her health never really seemed to work out. So despite not really having the money to have it done, her ears had finally cleared up enough that she would be healthy enough to undergo the surgery.

She had two small mammary tumors removed and while removing her uterus it was apparent that she had the early stages of pyometra (uterine infection). If we hadn't had the surgery done, she would have dropped dead within the month.

I'm glad Pebbles is back home. Even if she is mad at me.

OMG. I'm so glad you caught that.

She does give good glare, having seen her the day she was shaved.

ouch. Very glad you didn't wait too long.

OMG I'm glad she's alright, and knowing you saved her is enough to generally offset her glares, you know they're for a good cause.

Oh god, pyometra ... I've seen so many ratties taken by that ... how fortunate that you caught that in time.

She may be made at you but in the long run she will benefit from being spayed. I suggest treats to get back into her good graces :P

Well, she got beef flavoured chewable pankillers this morning... I count that as a good start

I'm happy that all coincided and Pebbles is healthy.

We have to take Pogo to the vet on Monday - she's been getting sick randomly, I think she may have developed a food allergy, I'm hoping it is nothing serious... She had cancer when she was a puppy, so I am kinda worried... She acts happy and healthy otherwise, full of energy and running around, eating and drinking like normal... Jeez, I hope it's just that she doesn't like a certain food.

A lot of dogs are getting food allergies nowadays to beef and corn especially.

We switched Pebbles onto d/d Science Diet. It's Potato and Salmon, and honestly, even if she didn't have the food allergy, she totally rejected store brands once we introduced her to the new food (which is also super healthy for her anyhow). Her new dog treats are frozen Brussels sprouts, and whole bell peppers (which doubles as a toy as she chases it).

We make Pogo's food and supplement it with a store-bought dog food... She usually gets potatoes, carrots, rice, ground beef, and then some dog food, but last week Col got her ground pork and she started getting sick, so we figured it was the pork.

We took out the pork, and fed her a very basic diet to see if that would help, feeding her the same food she's had her whole life. We even split the feedings into two smaller meals. She's still getting sick from time to time tho. I hope she'll be okay.

Her favourite treats are the dehydrated beef livers - we make sure to get her really high-quality treats and food, b/c I've had dogs that had allergies to preservatives before.
