My grandmother passed away on Saturday... I'm glad my schedule was already clear to go to Toronto

It's been a funny weekend. It started with getting ready to go to the campground and having an encounter with the douchbag driver, grabbing [livejournal.com profile] ultraplanarian1  and heading off to my grandmother's campsite, staying up chatting and heading off to sleep. Shortly after waking up the next morning, the owner of the campground dropped off a message that my grandmother was really sick and I should call home. It's times like these where I don't care as much about the long distance charges on my cell. I found out my grandmother was lucky to make it through the night and was likely to pass on that day. We ate, went swimming and a few hours later my father called to let me know she had passed away, and then we had a few laughs because my Aunt has been driving him nuts. We were a little late heading out to see [livejournal.com profile] furious_g  and [livejournal.com profile] parisbaby_2003 , but we got there eventually, ate good foods and played Arkham Horror, which was excellent. We ended up getting back to the site around 4am (whoops). The next day I started letting people at the campground know she had passed away, which was really difficult to do. It was really nice to talk to some of her friends who had known her for years... decades even... who really *knew* her. We all know she would have rather it had gone this way than ending up in a long-term care facility or some other situation. She worked as a palliative and geriatric care nurse for most of her life, and I can definitely see why she wouldn't want to join the ranks of her former wards. Talking with these people, I had a lot of laughs and smiles. I heard stories about how she had visited them in the hospital, or cooked big meals for all the old-timers. I'm glad she's remembered that way. I'm sad because I thought she would be with us longer.

And I had to laugh on the way home because the guy in front of me stuck his ichthys on his car upside down. The Greek letters gave it away.
