Wrong kind of shaft

So I came home to find there had been a fire in my building as I watched everyone with their bundled pets. I felt guilty having left my own pets home alone. People wonder why I get anxious about them. So I waited for like the 3rd elevator figuring many of these people had been waiting longer and so the elevator climbed to the 6th floor with me and 6 other people, a dog and a cat. And stopped. No opening doors. No moving. "So how friendly are we as neighbours?" I ask and proceed to play with the dog. For some reason no one registered that we were stuck but me for at least a minute. Really I have to wonder. It let us go 10 or 15 minutes later. At least I got some good play time in with Tika.

Dear gods.

I trust your apartment and pets were all fine?

Yep, the fire was on the other side of the building and contained within the apartment. I still get apprehensive. The worst thing that my apartment has undergone was the day it flooded. The person occupying 1016 ran a bath and left it running when he went to the store. I am on the 6th floor and had water pouring out of my intercom and welling up through the carpet. It was pretty bad. On the other side, the grotto effect in my bathroom was cute.
