The Good: Getting paid $50 for riding around for 3 hours on a bus.

The Bad: Taking a spill on two of the busses since the drivers do not recognizemy bus pas which says "I can not stand on a moving bus"

The Ugly: I'm about to call to complain to OCTranspo.

I had to make a recent complaint to OC Transpo because a bus driver claimed that I was faking having a service dog despite the fact that I showed him proper ID (he said the ID was fake).

They did follow up on it, I just have to call the disability coordinator to discuss with them about the situation. Be sure to ask about followups so you can see if anything was done. The operator I talked to on the phone to make my complaint was very friendly with me and answered my questions well.

I was told they are going to send out a memo stating "This is the disability card, learn it and love it". It's a personal indignitiy to have the card, show the card, and then have it disregarded.

I'm off to take pain medication and heat my back.

I'm glad to hear that there is such a card though - I've often wondered what people do who have mobility problems that aren't visible - ie who aren't walking around with canes or walkers or something obvious.

On days when my hip is hurting really bad, I often feel frustrated at being expected to stand while grey-haired people with perfect mobility waltz up effortlessly to the seats and demand to sit down. "You're young bla bla bla"

If I were you I would seek a lawyer - especially if you fell as a result of their ignorance.

Wait.... so OCTranspo issues disability cards to those who need them, but their drivers don't even recognize them? Way to implement a system, folks. But it is OCTranspo, so I guess it doesn't surprise me.

I'm glad you understand my chief complaint. I know I look able-bodied! Hence why I got a card, it's like handing someone a clue! But now I know I need to escalate, because frankly, if I were a more litigious person, this would be a lawsuit.

Fuckin right! Yell and holler! Escalate and demand satisfaction!

Yes, there was and I lived in such a time. There was a time when OC Transpo Bus Drivers actually gave a fuck. Now they don't much seem to or it seems to be a matter of potluck wether or not you get the good ones.

Once upon a time if there was a passenger with a special condition, it was made sure that they got a seat - period.

Mind you, the busses weren't shaped like they are now...these days hardly anyone gets a seat when things are busy because we have been so busy turning busses into para-para-transpo busses we hardly have room left for passengers anymore....

But yeah Zenten, there was a time not so long ago when people actually did give a shit about each other.

And I dunno what happened...
