Just because I haven't mentioned it here, and I've managed to call my family and Pebble's first owner now, for any that don't already know, we had to take Pebbles in to the vet to have her put to sleep last Friday.

She was an awesome dog, and came into our lives only a 2 and a half years ago, and still she made such a difference in our lives, and was such a great friend to James.

So here's to Her Royal Grace in better days.

We took James to a Language Study Lab today, and I was filling out an inventory of words James knows, and at one point I looked up and asked zenten "Does he know uh-oh?" and off to my left I hear "Uh-ohhh".

I have to say it sounds adoreable, and by far the cutest word he knows... for now.

James has a daycare space almost next door to [livejournal.com profile] zenten 's work in a licensed daycare facility. This makes me happy. And they're smuggling him in under the 18-month mark because he's so awesome (they're allowed to have 2 kids under the age of 18 months).

Yes, it's more expensive than what we've been paying, but there will be
a) Solid Foods
b) Milk and ample fluids
c) Outside Time
d) Lots of kids
e) Tons of toys
f) A structured day with lots of free play
g) A place to dump all his crap so we don't have to carry it to and from every day or worry about the care provider allowing other children to play with his diapers
h) Arts and crafts
i) sand table
j) water table
k) Rock-A-Bye Bob Marley
l) a guaranteed place for him until he's school aged
o) kiddie computers
p) phones and keyboards
q) circle time
you get the point

and [livejournal.com profile] zenten  will be able to drop off and pick up James if necessary, which is important since I could potentially have to work overtime, and overtime pay is nice, and right now I can't because I have to go pick up James, and get an earful about how I should be raising my son.

But first, I have to have the conversation with his current daycare provider... ... ... can I pay anyone to do this for me?

I took Pebbles to the vet again since she's been lethargic and won't eat. She also had pink eye and nose crusties and a slight cough.

The good news is her lungs sound clear, and I had been taking care of her eyes well.

I followed our Vet's directions, and wouldn't you know that Pebbles hasn't been eating because she couldn't smell her food. That's right, she's lost 2 kilos in 2 weeks because she couldn't smell the kibble in her bowl.

We now have to pour hot water over her kibble so that it becomes more fragrant until she feels better.

Hey, at least it works, and she perked up after a cup and a half.

"Kerry, can you tidy up your desk? I would really like the consultant to sit next to me next week while you're on vacation."

I think I can do that.

I arranged a training at work today that was very successful and everyone is thanking me for doing such an awesome job. I needed this win and I got it. Now to gymnastics.

I'm fairly certain Pebbles had a tonic-clonic seizure last night

Was going to update. Random error occurred and deleted my post. No update for you.

OK Fine.

My neighbours are freaks. In a bad way. We should really look at moving out sooner rather than later.

My boss is supporting me in my current situation at work very effectively. The person I'm having an issue with isn't getting much better in her behaviour, but I know my boss has my back, and I suspect the stuff will hit the fan when my boss gets back from Hawaii.

Work Drama Llama is actually a work bully :(

I can't wait for my manager to get back on Tuesday... I'm very upset with my work situation.

I kicked ass in work bowling yesterday. They have to tally it up, but they're pretty sure I took high score with a 142. Not bad for bowling while chasing James and holding a beer. Holding beer and a baby is tricky I tell you. James had fun and not because of the beer.

Drama Llama Rama... )

Today I made Black Bean Soup... definite winner. It's a soup and a tortilla dip all at the same time.

We all fee like we might be coming down with something over here. Here's to crossing our fingers and hoping it misses us. I think James really enjoyed his weekend overall. Lots of activities and fun. Unfortunately, there was also some kleptomania (pezchica, gabriel_le, somehow one of the playdoh people ended up in the diaper bag... will return on next visit).

We also got some good deals on a few toys for James, like a doll. I also didn't quite clue in until I got home that the packaging is very pink... do they even make dolls for boys? Anyhow, he has one now, and that should be enough, although I'm tempted to permanently lose the epilepsy inducing bottle that came with it.

I've also been playing Opoona, which I borrowed from the library, and I very much enjoy it. There's sand weasels, and a dog name G-Bone that rides on a hoverboard. It's all so very right and wrong at the same time. I can't wait until I can take it out again.

Some of you may remember my post about finally calling the cops on my neighbours one night.

She spent 5 days in the hospital.
He's still in jail.
The post I was going to make when I got home:

I came to the realization after a discussion with my coworkers that due to my service with St. John Ambulance, I was at one point Superintendant Chalmers.

The post I'm making now:

One of my budgies, Gryphon, passed away in my hand in the last half hour. He will be missed, though possibly most of all by Raven.

[livejournal.com profile] zenten  said I should post this...

I was watching an episode of The Simpsons, and figured out, for that episode at least, which state they were in. They took a trip to Capitol City, and Lisa made a flag for the city with the motto "Fraternal Love"... Philadelphia is the City of Brotherly Love... Springfield, Pennsylvania?

In other news, The OC is starting to look good... definitely time to go back to work.

I was concerned about James' fever and so I took him to CHEO today because he's not himself. I had to deal with a resident that was a bit of a douche, but it turns out James has pneumonia. And a stomach bug. James is not a happy camper.

Explanation on the douchery: My family doctor's theory is that I, as a mother, don't really need to take a temperature to know my child has a fever, and you know what, she's right. Mom's may not get an instruction manual, but they get the touch of fever sensing. Anyhow, the resident at CHEO starting giving me a hard time because I brought him to the hospital without ever taking his temperature. "Did he not have a temperature when he got here?" "Well, yes" "Was his temperature not 39.4C?" "Well, yes" "Then does it matter?" "Umm..." and he continued to give me instructions on how to take his temperature orally. "You're not a dad are you?" "Umm... no" "Because you can't convince a 1-year-old to keep anything under his tongue".

Anyhow, I'm home with James tomorrow. Josh is staying home with him Wednesday while I learn to write a Business Use Case.

My neighbours fight a lot. Every night since they got back from wherever they were, in fact. Tonight we called the cops because I got woken up from a dead sleep by thumping and the woman screaming. Fuck this.

So we've decided to teach James everything while he's still impressionable. Yesterday's lesson was IKEA.

James walked the entire length of IKEA in 2 hours. That included a lunch break, and the many, many, many sidetrips to loop around display rooms and through display shelves. He did take one shortcut, but he found it himself, and then after lunch we resumed the original pathway. He even attempted to escape at the end without his coat, adeptly dodging the arms of parents and strangers alike to make a break for the exit, only to be met with a blast of cold air, which encouraged him to change his mind and reverse course.

We bought storage things and more lighting for the livingroom. The storage was mostly for his incredible toy wealth.

Also, my gratitude goes out to the cashier at the IKEA restaurant. My card wasn't signed, and so he couldn't accept it, and my other means of payment were in the car (the signatures rub of my cards a lot), and so he told me to sit down, have breakfast, and then go out to my car and get them when I was done. Wait? What? *blink* It actually took me a minute to process his instructions. And that's what we did, and it was all happy. I thanked him lots.

The IKEA rampage was a success, and now to carry on organizing.
